Why the first line decides everything
LinkedIn hides your post behind "see more" after roughly two lines. Most readers never tap it. That makes the hook the highest-leverage sentence you write all week: a strong post with a weak first line performs like a weak post. This generator exists because staring at a blank first line is where most founders' posting streaks go to die.
How to use it
- Describe the post in a sentence or two. Rough is fine; specifics help ("we killed a feature after 3 months" beats "a product lesson").
- Generate. You get 8 hooks across proven shapes: claims, numbers, confessions, questions, before/afters, unpopular opinions.
- Pick the one you would actually say out loud, tweak a word, and check it against the post preview to make sure it lands above the fold.
The shapes, and when to reach for each
- The number: when you have a real metric, even an embarrassing one. "12 views" out-hooks "low engagement" every time.
- The confession: when the post is a lesson. Admitting the mistake up front buys trust for the advice that follows.
- The blunt claim: when you have a real opinion. If nobody could disagree with it, it's not a claim, it's a greeting card.
- The question: use sparingly, and only questions that sting. "Ever wondered about marketing?" hooks no one.
Got a hook that works? The LinkedIn post generator can build the rest of the post around it.
Questions
What makes a good LinkedIn hook?
Specificity and tension. A number ('12 views'), a confession ('I ignored marketing for 8 months'), or a claim someone could disagree with. The hook's only job is to earn the 'see more' tap; it doesn't have to summarize the post.
How long should the hook be?
Under 80 characters is a good rule. LinkedIn cuts posts around 210 characters on desktop and around 140 on mobile, and a short first line followed by a line break reads like a headline.
Will these hooks sound like AI wrote them?
The generator is instructed to write like a founder typing fast: no 'delve', no 'game-changer', no em dashes, no invented numbers. You should still pick the one that sounds like you and tweak a word or two. A hook you would actually say beats a clever one you wouldn't.
How many hooks can I generate?
25 free runs a day per person, no signup. Each run gives you 8 hooks in different shapes.
Do you store what I type?
The topic goes to our AI service to generate the hooks and is not used to train anything or attached to you. We keep a daily counter per anonymized IP for rate limiting, nothing else.
